Our 4-star camp ground in the Dordogne is the perfect home base for outdoor sports lovers.
Just outside the camp ground, in the Campagne forest, you can enjoy various outdoor sports: mountain climbing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, exploratory treks and more.
Mountaineering
Just a 15-minute walk from the camp ground, you can to climb beautiful limestone mountains. Grey and compact limestone ensures a good climb with plenty of grip.
There are 53 wonderful climbing routes in the area the longest of which is 20 meters with most the climbs averaging around 15 meters. Using modern equipment and the initial zone (20 routes) is ideal for beginners (level 3-5).
Most climbing routes on this mountain rates at levels 5 and 6 per the French rating system. Therefore, they are perfect for climbers who already have some experience and want to improve their technique.
At the end of an intense climb, your hard effort is rewarded with a breath-taking view over the Vézère valley and a beautiful view of the Campaign castle. The climbing guide “Climbing in the Périgord” is available at the reception.
Hiking
The Vézère valley is a true paradise for hikers. With more than 675 km of hiking trails and rich history you will have plenty to explore in this beautiful landscape. There are many wonderful nooks and crannies to explore such as shelters used by cavemen that are hidden amongst the rocks along the trails.
You only need to cross the street to walk into the forest of Campagne. With an area of 317 hectares and a wealth of flora and fauna, it is something you cannot miss. The large forest consists of two large curves (3 and 6 km), where you will find signs that indicate the types of fauna that can be found in the area. In the Campagne forest you can find rare and protected animal and plant species such as the peregrine falcon, the short-toed eagle, wild orchids and more. On this route, you can also find many caves and ancient medieval living environments.
During the high season, we also organize guided walks in the woods that allow you to explore the beautiful natural environment.
Horseback riding
Discovering the Dordogne on horseback is perhaps the most original and best way to explore the beautiful natural environment of the region. The equestrian centre “Arc à ciel” of Campagne offers year-round pony rides, where parents can accompany their children on a tour of the local area. In addition, it is also possible to go on a ride through the forest. This ride is available to riders of all levels.
Canoeing & kayaking
An activity you cannot miss out on during your holidays in the Dordogne is a canoe/kayak trip. You can choose to either canoe kayak along the Vézère or the Dordogne.
Vézère is the nearest river, which is surrounded by wild natural scenery such cliffs, caves and ancient troglodyte villages. It is like taking a journey back in time.
The Dordogne River is a much larger river that meanders along the shoreline and past some of the most beautiful castles in the area: Castelnaud, Beynac and Montfort.
During high season, we organise canoe/kayak trips, which depart from the camp ground. The service includes pick up and drop off from your accommodation.
